Mercedes Classic kicks of 2018

Mercedes Classic has kicked off the classic motor show season with exceptional displays of their vast heritage at both the fabulous Essen Techno Classica and Stuttgart’s Retro Classics. Essen debuted Stuttgart’s ‘Record-breakers and Champions’ display celebrating motor racing milestones in the Grand Prix realm. It’s been 80 years since Rudolf Caracciola captured his 3rd Grand Prix championship aboard MB’s complex and ear-shattering 475 HP 3 liter V12 W154. Essen will feature this all conquering Silver Arrow.

Kimi and Lewis score double championships

1998 was another epic year in F1 for Mercedes with the introverted but blindingly quick Kimi Raikonen sweeping both the driver’s and manufacturer’s championship aboard a McLaren-Mercedes MP4-13. Ten years on and Lewis Hamilton secured his second F1 world championship and Mercedes commemorates his victory by displaying Hamilton’s MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS F1 W05 Hybrid of 2014, the car that carried him to his second championship.

Celebrating the G-Wagon

What better way to celebrate the newest edition of the ancient but enduring G-wagon than by looking back at the quirky series via some early models. Three 460 series represent the early cars and are accompanied were by a model from the 463 series, one from the 461 series of the 1990s and the new G-Class which debuted in 2018.

All Time Stars

Mercedes Classic Center Stuttgart displayed an array of their ‘trading arm’ classics currently for sale at the Classic Center. In an effort to allow a wider range of inventory quality, the CC has cleverly devised three categories of quality:

Concours Edition: Either lavishly restored or has an extremely low mileage: vehicles in absolute top condition with the appearance of a near-new former employee car or new car. A classic of this kind enriches every collection and is a highlight for special occasions.

Collectors Edition: An exceptionally good original condition or has been restored some time ago. These young classics or vintage cars captivate with their perfect care condition and technical features that have been subjected to little stress. This makes a vehicle in the Collectors Edition not only a collector’s item, but also a fantastic companion for every trip.

Drivers Edition: In above-average overall condition. These vehicles have a relatively low mileage, so that the bodywork and paintwork are as neat as the vehicle’s technical features. The sum of its characteristics makes this car a reliable companion on all occasions.

So Mercedes Classic Stuttgart has a number of (European only) models for variety tastes and price points. To see their current offerings click HERE. For those of us in the US, MB Classic’s 2018 event schedule can be opened HERE. Their pavilions are gorgeous and staff always willing to answer questions. I always consider Mercedes Classic’s pavilion in Pebble Beach to be a must see event.
