For sale: 1978 Mercedes 300CD / W123 TurboDiesel Coupe in "Good" condition (KBB)(1). The odometer reads 287XXX, but the 4-speed automatic transmission and "Million Mile" Mercedes engine have only 101XXX miles. I am only selling to accommodate my growing family.

I am the third owner, with maintenance records dating back to 1997, with maintenance schedule and mileage digitally mapped (to be provided to buyer). This California car has been an outstanding daily driver; solid brakes, and a smooth, fast acceleration with no problems getting on the highway; I can easily match or pass traffic going 75-80 mph. I've had a blast driving her, and thoroughly enjoyed the countless gas station thumbs-up, and turned heads while cruising La Jolla and downtown San Diego. The 5-cyl diesel engine purrs like new, and gets ~24 mpg combined city/highway.

Buyers familiar with this series of Mercedes cars know that the Turbo Diesel engine was not available for the Coupe until 1981; this car's naturally aspirated, original engine was replaced with a Turbo Diesel engine from Mercedes in 1997. I do not have the original engine. She recently got a complete fluid/oil/filter change and valve adjustment, and is ready for another several thousand thought-free miles.

She has ice-cold AC (new compressor), new tires, a newly serviced odometer/display, and an incredible interior; only a single small crack on the dash, and the MB-Tex upholstery is in fantastic shape (96%).

Known issues in this 41 year old beauty:
- 1. Cruise Control has never worked during my ownership, and I don't know the fix/replacement cost. I never needed it.
- 2. The vacuum-actuated automatic locks occasionally stick, meaning that the passenger door must be manually locked/unlocked. That said, I have never been locked out of the car completely. Internet searches indicate that this is a common issue/straightforward fix.

I have title and original owner's manuals in hand, with extra key and nifty original Mercedes keychain.

(1) "Good" condition means that the vehicle is free of any major defects. This vehicle has a clean Title History, the paint, body and interior have only minor (if any) blemishes, and there are no major mechanical problems. There should be little or no rust on this vehicle. The tires match and have substantial tread wear left. A "good" vehicle will need some reconditioning to be sold at retail. Most consumer owned vehicles fall into this category. - Kelley Blue Book
